DVD Course Description:

This dynamic DVD workshop provides a current scientific review of the neurobiology of sensory processing disorders, deepening the viewers’ understanding of brain-behavioral relationships in the pediatric population. Bridging evidence with therapeutic intervention, this workshop leaves viewers with strong clinical reasoning and problem solving skills, enhancing the development of sensory intervention that is applicable to any environment. The workshop includes a mixture of lecture, problem solving sessions and videotape analysis.
Faculty:

Kimberly Barthel, BMR, OTR is a Neuro-Developmental Treatment-OT Instructor and a teacher of Sensory Integration Therapy, with post-graduate study in neuro-sciences. Having recently authored the pediatric textbook, Evidence and Art: Merging Forces in Pediatric Therapy, Kim proficiently blends and bridges the connection between the science of connection and the intuitive aspect of the therapeutic process.
Learning Objectives:

Following completion of this DVD course, participants will be able to:
- Associate the sensory, emotional and cognitive contributions to arousal and function.
- Relate the symptoms and behavioral characteristics of varying sensory processing disorders (Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Fetal Narcotic Disorder and OCD) to specific neurological etiology.
- Explain the neurobiology of attachment, connection and interaction in typical development and children with sensory processing disorders.
- Explain the use of therapeutic relationship as a contribution to the effective process of sensory intervention.
- Develop a repertoire of techniques and sensory strategies to develop adaptive responses in a variety of environments.
